Concrete Paint
Should You Use Concrete Paint ?
There are many
claims by the home owners that their concrete loses some of it original appearance after a while. Cracks, rust
stains, dimples are concrete integral parts after a while. These damages gives the house an ugly look, and many
people “fix” these problems by adding new layers of some other materials. This is only temporary solution
though, and much better solution for these problems is concrete paint.
Changing of the
concrete can be very expensive job that can disturb normal family life while the work takes place. This is one
of the main reasons why should you try to solve concrete problems with some simpler and quicker solutions. The
solution, this article is about, is much easier and shorter than putting new concrete on the whole area.
Basically, all you have to do is go to a shop, chose the color you want, buy all the necessary it takes to do
the job and you can start painting. You should also be very careful, when buying color, to buy the color for
right environment, depending on whether you will paint the outdoor or indoor
concrete.
As always, when
there are colors involved within the job, you can use your imagination and creativity. Simply by buying
different colors, the possibilities are endless. It is very wise though, not to start making you creations on
the concrete first, but rather on the paper. Some of the ideas for the start could be various patterns, words,
letters and numerous geometric shapes. There are also templates available for many of these objects that can be
bought (they are highly recommended for non-skilled painters).
Before you get your
hands dirty with the paint, there are some precautions you should consider. The surface you are about to paint
must be clean and dry. There must be no water, oil, or any other element remains all across the surface. If you
did not do your cleaning well, the paint may not attach the surface well, and you will achieve artifacts you did
not want to appear at the first place. The most common method for concrete cleaning is by using a broom over the
dry surface and to use any strong cleaning product you purchased. The removal of the soap is easy, simply by
washing away it with the water. If also recommended by most manufacturers not to paint concrete if it is not at
least 28 days old. Once you fulfilled all the requirements, you can start
painting.
Once the painting
is finished, you will be surprised how easy and simple was the process of reinventing of your concrete. One very
nice possibility regarding concrete paints is that, if you get bored with existing colors, you can easily
purchase new paint from wide palette of colors (most popular being “mission brown”, “black” , “forest green”,
“light terracotta” and “light grey”) . You should also keep in mind that, where the heavy traffic exists
(especially in the outdoor), there is no color which will not require repainting from time to
time.
